How To Use The Search Engine

Our search engine allows you to search the SOT website. Use the drop down menu to specify:

whether you want all your words to be searched for
or whether any of the words would be acceptable
or whether you want the exact phase to be retrieved

Next, type the search word(s) into the the text box and press the "Submit" button. If the search is successful, the results list will be displayed in order of relevance; if nothing is found, then you may need to check your spelling, or find alternative words to use for another attempt.

For more sophisticated searches, you can use the following options:

To ensure that a word is always included, precede it with a + (plus) sign, e.g +lathe.
To ensure that a given word is excluded from your search, precede it with a - (minus) sign, e.g -wood.
To find multiple endings to a word, use the wild card option (*); at the end of a word: e.g. turn* will find turn, turner, turners and turning. Take care using this option as you may find you get unexpected results: e.g. tur* will find turn, turner, turners and turning, and also tureen, turtle, etc!
